Arsenal in for £6m Goalkeeper

Arsenal are preparing to move quickly to capture Sunderland's 28 year-old Scottish goalkeeper, Craig Gordon, whose club will listen to offers for their former number one.

Steve Bruce, the Sunderland manager, has already spent a great deal on players like Manchester United's Wes Brown and John O'Shea as well as Ipswich's young star, Connor Wickham. Now, Bruce is looking to bring a bit of money in, and according to the Mail, Sunderland are ready to listen to offers starting a £6 million, with Arsenal and Manchester city interested.

Manuel Almunia is looking increasingly likely to leave Arsenal for good, as he finds it hard to even get into the Arsenal team thanks to his regular blunders, while Wojciech Szczesny is still young, and will need a more experienced goalkeeper to step in when needed.

Manchester City's interest stems from the fact that Shay Given looks likely to move on, perhaps to Aston Villa in search of first team football thanks to Joe Hart's regular place in the side. Arsenal and City are looking for a goalkeeper of Gordon's experience in the Premier League, and one that is capable of stepping in solidly when needed.

Gordon is believed to be that man, and considering he has not been a regular since Simon Mingolet became Sunderlands number one keeper, he will be used to be on the bench for long periods of the season. Gordon's injuries may be of a concern to the two interested clubs, having broken his arms a couple of times and recently underwent knee surgery to repair his knee tendon and the Anterior cruciate ligament injury he had suffered.
