"Terrific" Berbatov Not Forgotten

He may have been Manchester United's top scorer last season with 20 goals in the Premier League, and he may have cost United over £30 million, but the Bulgarian striker, Dimitar Berbatov has only appeared in one game for the club this season.

There is of course sympathy for the 30 year-old, who has become a very likeable personality around United, despite early reservations about his attitude, but Sir Alex has faced a problem this season. He has seen the team play brilliantly at a very fast, attacking pace with new, young players injecting their enthusiasm and energy into the midfield, with the best player to compliment that play being Rooney with Chicharito or Welbeck.

Worry not, Berbatov fans. Sir Alex Ferguson has not forgotten about his former Spurs striker. The problem simply remains with the amount of strikers at the club. Yes, while Arsenal bemoan the lack of players and depth of their squad, Manchester United are having troubles, of sorts, with occupying their heaps of talent up front, despite the latest injury to young Danny Welbeck.
Sir Alex Ferguson said:
"Dimitar has been training terrific. His attitude is spot on. He will get his game time as the season wears on. There is no question about that."
"It is hard because of the number of strikers we have. Michael Owen is there, Federico Macheda, Mame Biram Diouf. Danny Welbeck won't be back next week but probably the week after. It is not easy."
It looks unlikely that Berbatov will start against Chelsea this week-end. While we may want to see him given more game time, why break up a winning formula? Rooney and Javier Hernandez's partnership is blossoming each game, and has so much more potential to grow considering their age. At 30, Berbatov is a player for the here and now, yet he isn't relied upon in the biggest games to put in a shift against the best opposition.

He is a fantastic player, with stunning technique, incredible under control of the ball as well as some great vision and skill, but with young talent ready to burst, is there enough patience to occupy Mr Berbatov? Of course there is, but his performances will need to impress immediately.
